“I am somewhat exhausted; I wonder how a battery feels when it pours electricity into a non-conductor?”
― Arthur Conan Doyle
Everyday we’re given the opportunity to shift our perspective. This morning I had NO intention of going to the gym. However, I put my sweats on (merely because they were comfortable), then my jogging shirt, and next thing I thought – hey, perhaps I could go to the gym. And I did! Probably only the 5th time in 2013! Yes, I could feel guilty about that or I could feel really good that I said yes today. And, what made today different is I didn’t go because I had to or I should, I went because I wanted to and my experience was so much better. It made me say – oooo, I can’t wait for tomorrow!
Fun ways to experience more energy this holiday season:
As Everything is Energy, our words, our thoughts or deeds – how can we give a little lift to our day? Here is a list of 7 possibilities to shift the energy in your day!
- Listen to your favorite tune at least once a day (even if it has NOTHING) to do with the holidays! Dance if you dare or at the very least – find a way to move your body.
- Turn your “shoulds” into “I get to”
- Be aware of where you’re being a “non-conductor”
- When you find yourself at the dessert bar at a holiday gathering – instead of “I really shouldn’t eat xyz”, instead try saying, “I love that life gives me so many yummy choices!”
- If overwhelm starts to kick in – repeat, “I love my life”, even if you don’t believe it.
- Notice your breath throughout the day, is it shallow? Make it a point to bring full oxygenating breaths in and then release all that doesn’t serve you.
- For some of my clients, gloom sets in at this time of year for a variety of reasons. Many of lost someone close to them, some compare this year to other years, and still others feel less than because their lives do not look like a kodak moment. And while it may not be easy coming from this space, find a way to get out of yourself and make it a point to practice a random act of kindness. Some ways to do this are:
- Give someone flowers who weren’t expecting it
- Open the door for someone
- Buy a latte for the person behind you in the drive-thru
- Ask someone else what makes them happy and then take the time to fully be present to their response
While sad things happen and maybe life is not what you would have hoped, getting out of yourself and serving another may end up helping you far more than you helping the other person. Energy grows where your focus goes.
What song can you put on today to lift your energy sky high?
